PINE TREE HOSPICE WELCOMES FOUR NEW VOLUNTEERS
Four enthusiastic Direct Care Volunteers have completed the four-week training program and have entered the “ranks” of the Pine Tree Hospice (PTH) corps of volunteer non-medical care providers. The training program, conducted by Tracey Gray, PTH’s Client & Family Services Coordinator, is a combination of 2-hour in-person sessions and online modules which learners take at their own pace. Development of the new format was supported by a generous grant from Bangor Savings Bank. The Spring training sessions were held at the Guilford Public Library’s Community Room. The State of Maine mandates that PTH provide 20 hours of training to new volunteers before they are matched with compatible applicants for PTH’s free services.
The new members of the PTH Direct Care Team are: (seated in front) Marguerite Weymouth of Dover-Foxcroft; (l to r - back) Andrea Thurlow (PTH host), Laurie Sheppard of Sebec; Lissa LaClerc of Greenville. Not present for the photo was Heather Pomerleau of Abbot .
The next 4-week training class begins in early September in Dover-Foxcroft. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a PTH volunteer, please call Tracy Gray at 207-802-8078. Tracy will explain the application process and answer any questions. Since 1985, Pine Tree Hospice volunteers have provided local non-medical support to people with life limiting conditions and their caregivers, and to those enduring the grieving process. This year, Pine Tree Hospice is celebrating its 40th anniversary serving Piscataquis Country and adjacent areas of Penobscot and Somerset Counties.
