The Monson Finnish Farmers will be celebrating Juhannus - Midsummer with a dinner of Finnish foods (Finnish meatballs, ham, potatoes, cucumber salad, dessert) from 4:30 - 6:30 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Juhannus is a celebration of the Summer Solstice and is an important holiday in Finland. It is a time for family and friends to gather to celebrate nature and summer. Following the dinner, a Finn Dance will begin at 7PM featuring The Oystermen.
Monson Arts is hosting ''Building a Painting'' with Maine painter Alan Bray For beginner to intermediate painters with a basic knowledge of drawing and painting Tempera, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, or drawing. This workshop will deal with the progression of making a painting from the initial impulse to the final execution of the work. We will examine the process of thinking, editing, refining, and developing a strategy and process for building a painting.

Monson Arts hosts ''Field Reporting for Audio Storytellers with Nora Saks and Robert Smith'' For Mid-career producers, editors and reporters. It’s time to take your audio productions and reporting out of the studio and into the real world. Over the course of a three action-packed days, you’ll get a chance to experiment with a variety of field reporting and recording techniques and tools in a supportive, learn-by-doing environment. Using the town of Monson, the Appalachian Trail nearby, and other surrounding areas as our classroom, you’ll learn how to capture vivid scenes, natural sounds, and create compelling action in the field to establish an authentic sense of place.
