Demand for foraging workshops are high and for the 5th year, Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) is ready to bring this educational opportunity to our region again. Our 2023 Foraging Workshop will be held on Sunday, August 13th at the Law Farm Nature Trails, with two sessions available - one from 9-11AM and another from 1-3PM.
PCSWCD’s Executive Director Sarah Robinson will work alongside Dustin Small, a local forager and friendly face from Bissell Brothers Three Rivers, to bring a unique and fun foraging walk along the Law Farm Nature Trails. The Law Farm Nature Trails is one of PCSWCD’s public lands, is located on Lee Cemetery Rd in Dover-Foxcroft and has a 1 mile looping trail that is surrounded by forests, wetlands and fields - lots of diversity for finding trail nibbles!
Sarah is excited to share what she has learned about foraging over the years and her familiarity with the Law Farm Nature Trails will help guide us through the property. Dustin has been foraging fiddleheads and berries for almost his whole life. When you live in Maine, those are two of our favorite finds. Dustin started specializing in mushrooms in 2014 and after many requests, PCSWCD is finally able to share this in our programming. Dustin also started foraging commercially and will discuss how he sells foragables to restaurants and food coops. Dustin describes his favorite thing about foraging as “something that gives us a reason to get outside, slow down, and observe our beautiful environment here in Maine. You see the change progress throughout the season and learn a lot along the way.”
Bring your basket and be prepared to learn about mushrooms and foraging in Piscataquis County! We can’t wait to walk with you! Registration is required! Foraging – Piscataquis County Soil & Water Conservation District (piscataquisswcd.org)
