About the Project
Dover-Foxcroft was selected to receive planning assistance to support downtown revitalization and outdoor recreation development through the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities program, sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the USDA Forest Service, the Northern Border Regional Commission, and other agencies. Working with partners and local stakeholders, this effort will result in an action plan to help the community grow in ways that reflect local priorities and values. Find more information at https://www.epa.gov/smartgrowth/recreation-economy-rural-communities.
When: Wednesday, June 10 - Thursday, June 11, 2026
Where: Central Hall Commons, 152 E Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft
This interactive, two-day workshop is an opportunity to share your ideas, connect with neighbors and local leaders, and help shape a plan for the future of our community.
Together, we’ll explore how to:
Improve walkability, connectivity, and access downtown and along the Piscataquis River.
Improve and expand Dover-Foxcroft's existing recreation amenities, such as the public beach and concession stand, ATV and snowmobile trails, and boat launches at Sebec Lake and Branns Mill Pond.
Raise awareness of Dover-Foxcroft's recreation and downtown assets.
Make Monument Square a more appealing place to stop, sit down, and hold community gatherings.
Strengthen implementation capacity (e.g., volunteer base, partnerships with businesses).
